GIANTS Comics--Dan Burke editor

It's Collossal and Titanic, It's GIANTS Comics. Magazine size, full color, 32 pages, $10 cover price.

Art and stories by Dan Burke, Chris Wisnia and Rock Baker.

Giants is a throw back to the comics of the 60's/70's....or more likely a parody of those times. It's a fun frolicking blast of adventure and color and comedy. Dan Burke has gone wild editing up this great book. The cover has something from all the stories represented, plus the screening of the color, the checkerboard pattern, and the rectangular box in the upper left corner, all take us back to an earlier time in comics past. The inside cover which carries over to the first page of the book sets the tone. Everything is BIG, and this book is going to be funny!

The first story is "The Green Giantess" by Rock Baker. This story is also like a flashback to the comics of the past, like an issue of Strange Tales. Not sure why all the lettering is so huge but that seems to be a trend in this book. Excellent coloring on this story-not sure who did the coloring here-- but it also reminds me of the silver age comics and how they were handled. This story ends pretty abruptly, seems there was more to come here. Continued in the next issue? Maybe.

The next story is "Fear of the Blue Giants" by Dan Burke. This story is directly inspired by the first story in the book. Not sure I've ever seen this done before. Wait, this is Dan continuing the first story! This is very interesting.....Dan expands on the simple first story giving us a "what if" continuation. Very well done. Does the lead character turn in to Duke Nukem? HA. Dan can sure pack a lot into one page as he does here in this last page of this 4 page story.

The next story "Gabba Gabba Hey!" is not credited but I'm pretty sure is by Dan Burke. He lets it all loose in this one, unleashing a monster of destruction. From the surprise start to the destruction to follow.....Dan is on fire here. I see such improvement in Dan's story telling here. His panel to panel action is easier to follow and he has developed his own style. I love the way he shows the action on pages 6-8 of this story. (and his use of blacks in the art shading.) I also like the way the ending brings us back to what happened at the start. Excellent work here, love it.

Next is "Doris Danger Giant Monster Adventures: Poo-Twah!" Now we are really taken back to the early issues of Strange Tales with the man-urned-into-monster story and even the art looks like Jack Kirby, though from his DC comics of the 70's style. I'm guessing this story is by Chris Wisnia as it is not credited though his name is on the credits, page 1. The art seems taken right out of some Kirby comics, or very inspired by them, but the story is a very funny take on those early tales. Great fun! I love all the little editorial mentioning of earlier issues like Stan used to do in the Marvel books! Oh, yes, Chris has his name in the last panel advertising more to come at: www.slgcomic.com

The last story in the book is "Giantia the Mistress of Bigness Battles.....Giant Gia" by Dan Burke. Wow, Dan put in a lot of work for this book. A labor of love here. This story is another (3rd in this issue?) story of two very giant girls. They start fighting and destroying an oil rig out in the ocean. We are introduced to "Deep Sea Diver-Chum Bukler" Ha! Great stuff here. This one has a funny twist ending only Dan could come up with!

There is a page of comic reviews, mentioning books by Larry Johnson, and Jim Main's Main Publications!

Last but not least a beautiful page with 6 Marvel parody covers.....I love this stuff! Fantastic Fools, The Assemblers, and Bulk to name a few......Dan could do a full Burke Age of comics! And he should!

I have no choice but to give this book 5 stars out of 5 as it is very entertaining, funny, and well worth $10.

Comic artist's work to be entombed in Poe's home.

PALM SPRINGS, Calif -- A horror comic book artist from the California desert will travel across the country to see his art plastered in the home of one of America’s most legendary writers.

Wes Huffor, an artist who has drawn horror comics for a handful of publishers (including himself), will travel June 23 to the New York cottage of Edgar Allen Poe. There, an untitled piece of art will be entombed in the walls of the cottage as part of an effort by the Historic House Trust of New York City.

Huffor’s drawing took first place in a contest held by the non-profit organization. Titled “How Does Edgar Allen Poe Inspire You?,” the contest called for pieces of drawn and written art to be placed in the walls, creating a kind of artistic time-capsule.

Wes’ untitled piece features a Poe-inspired raven and candles drenched in melancholy atmosphere. The piece was commissioned by a fan at a convention in Anaheim, CA earlier this year.

“I really felt that using the image of the bird, with the candles, the empty liquor bottle, skulls and sense of being trapped within your own dark room was the right way to create the feeling of being trapped within your own darkness,” Huffor said.

Pork Belly Holiday Special! Weird Muse Productions

Dan Taylor produces some of the best mini-comics out there in the small press world! This mature readers issue is: Pork Belly Holiday Special (SANTA Issue!). Dan does his usual fantastic art on the cover showing a particular porky santa holding an apple. Porky Santa is warning us that this issue is for Adults Only! And that's a good thing he is warning us as some of the pages in the back do get a bit racy. Dan's intro thanks all the folks that have supported his work in the last 31 years! Wow. And in this issue we have: Allen Freeman (me), Andy Nukes, Brad W. Foster, Carrie Taylor, Dexer Cockburn, Hal Weaver, Macedonio Garcia, Ralf Schulze, Simon Mackie, and Vincent Wright! Whew...lots packed into this little Red cover, 16 page mini (including the covers). My only concern was that my old eyes couldn't make out what appeared to be some fine cartooning from Simon Mackie as his pages were so small to fit the mini-comic size they got too small for me to read. Love to see his work in at least a digest size or full comic size at some point.

No Hope #5 by Jason Dean

No Hope #5 by Dead Dog Press, Jason Dean. Magazine size black and white with black and white glossy covers. 52 pages including covers.

This anthology of stories by Jason Dean has some of the most remarkable, detailed comic work I've ever seen. The time it must of taken, and the skill to produce this art is amazing. His stories leave you with no hope, thus the title of the book. Most end with death or some crazy violence that goes back to normalcy again. The Funeral is a story of what it would be like if we could say goodbye to everyone at our own funeral. Funnyface is just a series of images of a face that is pulled off like a mask revealing a crying skull face. "The Disturbing Dream of a Depressed and Overworked Designer of Pictorial Symbols" is an ingenious strip using symbols of a guy going through his average day, but after taking some drugs he is on a shooting rampage, chased by the police and eventually, suicide. The work of Dean covers some art styles similar to some of the best underground cartoonists like the details of Crumb, the jarring images of a Basil Wolverton and mix of a few others whois names I can't remember right now (Jim Siergey comes to mind.). Like the best of the best in art style. The real showcase is a very strange and twisted story "Let's Have a Picnic". It's like a cute little children's story, with find-the-hidden objects, fill in the missing letters, run the maze, etc....but as the family is on the picnic, some horrible things take place. (This book is for mature audiences only, for sure.). The cover shows the happy family before the horror and the back cover after the horror. It's like taking a Hilighlights magazine I used to read in gradeschool and turning it on it's ear and scaring you with it!

If you love extremely tallented art, and on the edge stories that could warp you....this book is a 5 out of 5. If you have a weak heart and are upset easily and don't need to be more depressed that you already are then you'd probably give this a pass altogether. Being that most small press readers like the unusual, they will really bite on this series.

A review of 5 mini comics from Dan Taylor's company: Weird Muse Productions.

Pork Belly #5: 8 page mini on pink paper. $1.00 per copy. A talented bunch doing one page illos and gag strips. Dan Taylor cover, Brad Foster with a robotic cow illo, 2 pages of cartoons by Jim Siergey, 2 pages by Andy Nukes and a page by Dan Taylor. Well worth a dollar, that's for sure. I love the way this reminds me of the old Comix Wave mini's.

Pork Belly #6, (8 pages, purple paper.) is another 8 page mini with a cover by Dan Taylor. Dan's work is very polished. This issue is weaker than #5 with mostly a story by Macedonio which is OK on the art but the story isn't leading anywhere that I can see. The Vincent Wright cartoons may make sense to Vencent but not sure who else....back cover by Andy Nukes and is simple but interesting.

Escape from the Asylum QUARK IV is the final chapter. 8 pages, blue paper. I believe this series was brought back from the 80's if I remember what I recently read somewhere. This is a joint publication from Weird Muse and Blue Moon (Jerry Goebert). Story: Jerry Goebert, Art- K. Haves, tones-Dan Taylor.

The story is strange and eccentric? Anyway it was drawing me in when it ended. I'm sure there is a lot of back story I'll have to find to make sense of all this. Get this only if you plan to find the earlier issues. The art is serviceable but on a scale of 1-10 around a 4.

Time Warp #9. 8 page mini comic on gold paper. I love this series but this Quark stuff leaves me flat. I'm plunged into the middle of something....I feel this 8 page mini shouldn't try to be more than it is. Stick to one panel or 2 or even 3 page stories but have them end and not continue into another issue. Dan's art is fantastic...now to find him a story that everyone can get into. Panthology Issue One - The Pantheon Inc.

Panthology Issue One. Published by The Pantheon Inc. is a full size black and white comic with color covers, 36 pages. Cover by Cary Lee Baker. Interior stories by: Various. First we have a harrowing cover of what you don't want to see right before being operated on! Right off the bat we have an idea that this book is for adults only. They also have a M for Mature on the cover as well. The inside cover contents is a fantastic way to show off the credits of the book...on toe tags! No lie...and in color. Yes, color interior covers! Production values are way high here.

First story is Hazz Matt by Mike Edmondson. The art is passable, page one is very promising...the story is all action and continued....sigh....but does make me want to see more.

Next up: He Wakes to Darkness...with art by Cary Lee Baker, story by Jesse D. Wright, lettering by Kimberly Wright. The art is very good on this story especially the first few pages. Word balloons are too thin but that's a small nitpick...the story pulls you along and has a twist ending...nice. I'm assuming that is the end of the story as it doesn't say "the end" or continued...but seems to be the end...nice work on this one.

Next up is FAILURE by Rene Blansette. Nicely told, nicely drawn, again a bit violent (That's the theme for sure.) and has a twist ending. Rene can sure tell a story and laid out the pages/panels very nicely.

Next up: Quick Bites: "What a Girl Wants" written by Bart A. Thompson, Art by Kevin Richardson and lettering by Kim Wright. Wild story. Great art. This one is very adult with some coupling and again with the horror and twist ending...art has some EC Comics style at the start especially.

Ghosts with story and art by Cary Lee Baker. A short action movie....like a trailer for Night of the Living Dead or something....nice use of blacks and great pacing here. Well done. Cary has been producing fantastic work since I've known him (and published his work) in the 80's!

The Sitter, story/coloring/lettering by Glendon Haddix, Pencils and Inks by Steven Doty. By coloring I think he means grey tones or else this was originally in color, now produced in black and white. Story is OK, fairly predictable. Art is OK, a bit crude but passable. Pacing is very good and it keeps you reading, keeps you interested. Fits the theme of the book nicely.

Last story has no title or credits....the art has some areas that would fit in a Heavy Metal Mag....nice work there. The story is sketchy, bleak future stuff. With more of a story this artist could really fly.

All in all the book is well worth the $2.99 price. Lots of entertainment here for folks that like horror and are over 18. All of the creators in this issue show great promise and I can't wait to see more by them in the future. Pantheon could have a bright future. Here's hoping they keep on putting out work of this caliber. (The cover for #2 on the inside back cover shows a western horror theme....something I'm into.) The stories could use more fleshing out (pun intended) with more meat to them. Let's learn more about the characters. (4 stars out of 5)

Christina Wald sent me the comic for review and she did the comic strip: The People in the Stars. It is like a childrens story with a royal family in some other solar system and the prince helps out an elephant that is in the circus. The story is continued as are one or two others in the book so I have high hopes for more issues of Twelve-Way with Cheese.

This is a very funny, very professional production from start to finish. All of the artists are professionals I can tell. I can't say enough good things about this book. All I know is you have to buy it and read it. Well worth the $20 cover price.

OK, since you asked my favorite parts were: Which Prize Do You Want (Inside front cover), I never knew selling cannibis seeds door to door could be so rewarding! Loved page 2 (not numbered) with all the great old ads for X-Rated Specs, Hypno-Coin, Xombie Marge Mask and of course The FREE One Million CASH. (When you choose a fast-paced career in Armed Robery!), Crap! On page #1 (Finally the pages start getting numbered...) a contents page we are told that the ads in this book are NOT real! And I already cut out all the coupons and mailed out all the checks...pooop.

I liked all the cartoons in the Cartoon Succotash comic panel pages. Great stuff. Daryll Collins work is darn funny. Then there is a Zombie Illustraed Swimsuit Models section by Brennan Bradford (art) and Tim Fuller (text). This is better than Cracked or Mad! Mistletoe-Time! is a sad comic, very well done. Another comic parody this time: Marge's Little Voodoo! Marge's comics company desides to do a comic for kids.....after it failed they were all shot in the head. Wow, this is one serious comic company!

There is a one page Humpty Dumpty story told in four card shaped boxes....you've got to see the ending!

Yet another comic book parody is: Deductive Comics by Bob Kahnman. Wow, the hits just keep on coming!

More great comics and more great ads and then the Dead Letter Office (Memos to the Corpse in Charge). Everyone knows I love funny letters in phoney letters pages....and this book has one!

Last and very least is the part that talks about the creators with some funny self-portraits as well.....What the heck....If I was you, I'd send $40 for this $20 comic! Just do it!

Now I must go door-to-door selling my boxes of cannibus seeds, I only have to sell 4000 to get my "Li'l Pornographers Kit".

Superaliens Pal, Timy Olsen--The Cross Dressing Timmy Olson" Dan Burke has done it again with another super parody of classic comic characters. This time he sends up Jimmy Olsen as Timmy Olsen that will do anything to get the story! I won't give away the story but Superman (Here he is Superalien) is in a story where Timmy Olsen must dress the part to get on the inside for a story. Will he do anything? Does he go, too far? HA! Lots of laughs here! There is another story called Rat Man this is equally hilarious! I loved Dan's take on his origin...a very funny take on the "BatMan" origin. This one really takes a turn! Plus a short story again making fun of a classic comic character THOR. Here we have Journey Into Misery with THOP! God of Plumbing! What a crazy origin here and I particularly love the panel where Dr. Flake says, "Why am I hiking in a business suit with my crippled legs?" HA! Good question.

Everyone that knows anything about comics of the past will love this take-off of the characters that Dan has chosen to parody here.

Al Burian Goes to Hell, by Al Burian. 88 page full size comic, black and white, $6 from Microcosm Publishing. I've received a batch of books from Microcosm and they are all very high quality, very interesting comic graphic novels. I'll be reviewing them soon, meanwhile I just got this comic from them in the mail and read it cover to cover. Al seems to have some deep depression issues for sure which are all brought to light here. It was very interesting also for being a loose version of Dante's Inferno (A book that Al can't seem to find in his house.) The art is very simple but moves the story along nicely and fits the style of the writing very well. A dark story for sure, it will not brighten your day, but it will entertain you.

This is a set of three digest books 20 pages each. I can't find a price anywhere on them or in the info above that was sent to me. The art is a bit amaturish, all in pencil with no inks and the stories sort of left me cold. Not much going on here in the stories but I liked the recipes, and the poems much more. Greg's work shows off a lot of promise and in time, I'm sure his work will appeal to a wider audience. For now I give it -- (2 out of 5 stars **)

Haweszilla! #1 by Cosmic Moustache Comics. Written, drawn and produced by Clint Basinger. 28 pages in black and white with grey tones. Full color covers. Super stiff covers, super glossy. $3.00

Haweszilla takes some true facts then turns them loose. I love the art and story and reccomend this book to everyone. It tells the story of how Hawesville, KY became attacked by a monster created by their own making, sort of. The city with two water towers (They must be really thirsty.) and the making of sarghum. This small town of Hawesville, KY will never be the same. I love the recipe for the creation of this monster! I liked how all that scouting helped the superhero be ready for anything! I also liked the real photos on the back cover. This is a very inspired tale. I want everyone to buy this book today, and have fun! OH, and I really liked the funny ad on the inside covers! Oh, and the recipe in the back! HAHAHA, love it. [*****5 stars out of 5]

Tales from the Seventh Galaxy #3--James Rubino

Tales from the Seventh Galaxy #3 (TFTSG3) by James Rubino is a full size comic, glossy color covers, 32 page comic. $3.00 (Not the deceptive, psychologically-manipulative $2.99)

The art by James is sort of his own version of a Jack Kirby of the DC Comics days. He's made it his own though, and has an original feel to it. The coloring on the cover was different. Reminded me of the old days where you had to hand cut the films to get the flat colors you wanted. I guess he was going for this look. The stories in the book all seem very original (written by James) and seem to come from someone that really likes sci-fi novels. His writing becomes even more creative than the panel to panel artwork. The art seems to be just there to add some punch to the stories, not the other way around as in most comics it seems. I love the down-home feel that James gives to his comic like having a photo of him in the bottom corner from what looks to be his 5th grade class photo. James art is polished but could use some work in the proportions of the characters. He uses a front on pose way too much in his work but his faces are very well done. The more I looked at the art the more I'm thinking that the way the characters legs and arms seem to "get small" could be his "style". I love the way he added the grey tones to his work and the lettering throughout is masterful. He definitely has a knack for the layout of the book, and how to make it look professional. I'm not sure if this was to be a joke or not, but I found it funny that the art on the letters page that takes up about 75% of the page, has characters telling us how sorry they couldn't print more letters, as there just wasn't enough room. Funny stuff. From the look of the printed letters James has a following for this series and like them, I can't wait to see more. P.S. And yes, everyone is right, Yumishira must get her own comic book. [***3 out of 5 stars]

North Country-by Shane White (NBM Publishing)

North Country by Shane White is a wonderful, horrific, true story of Shane's early life. The story is told with Shane older and about to fly to see his parents and sister in present time. Things around the airport cause him to remember back to tougher times of growing up in a small house out in the country. His father was not very nice to anyone in the family and you'll just have to read it to see it for yourself. Shane's artwork is a fantastic mesh of realistic, and at times a more cartoony style but it always works within the story arcs. His coloring on the pages is mesmerizing! He can color in any style imaginable,
and it sure shows in this book. The coloring is always spot-on as to the mood of the page. This is a must have book for anyone interested in comics, true stories, great art, excellent storytelling. I like just about all types of comics, but true stories always stay with me longer and I'm more drawn to the book, savoring every panel of it. This is now one of my favorite graphic novels of all time. No, lie. (5 out of 5 stars *****)

Things Undone was one of my best finds at APE this year. Yes, my first time to be at this show in San Francisco. Lots and lots of books to look at and this was my favorite, so that says one heck of alot! I must admit that I only found the book because Shane White the artist, writer, genius showed it to me at his booth, and I was at his booth because he and I go way back when we both worked at the gaming company his character in this book works at. Don't for a minute think that my opinon of this book was swayed due to the fact that I know Shane, and know he is a comic mastermind and artist extrodinare. No, I liked the book the minute I flipped through it. First of all it is mostly based on Shane's life and I love true stories. It is also about 20 percent fantasy (The zombie parts.) and I feel that this just brought his story to a more interesting avenue. I can't say enough for the art in this book. The way Shane can grab you and carry you along from panel to panel is masterful. His unique use of orange to shade the black and white line art is fantastic. But just because the art is very, very good, don't be fooled. The story is amazing. It takes you into the characters life and you "feel" for him. Let's just say things are not going well for this poor guy. I can't say enough great things about this book. Captain Cure #1 is a $3, full size, color comic by Alternate Reality Comics. 22 pages, slick covers and with a slick poster bound in. Ty Walkefiled seems to be the artist and colorist and letterer and writer. I see a name at the bottom of the poster Ty Douglass. Anyway, the art is very good, the coloring appears to be done with markers and is a bit rough. The lettering is also rough and sometimes doesn't fit in the balloons. But ignore all that. The story pulls you along starting out realistically then taking you into a superhero world with Captain Cure fighting Cancer, a Villian-monster with his evil cell cronies. The intro, and the article in the back about Lance Armsrong's Foundation to help people that are fighting cancer is a nice touch. This is a great idea and I can see a following for this. It's all for a great cause. Ty was diagnosed in March of 2007 with bone cancer and continues to fight in his home town of Lewiston, Idaho and is the co-founder of Reality Comics. (3 out of 5 stars)

I was waiting for my wife to get her hair done. It was to take one hour. After about 90 minutes of waiting, with the last 30 minutes in the car, I grabbed the mail that I'd not opened yet. To my surprise and happiness here was a review copy of 3-D Pete's STAR BABE INVASION Special. It looks like Mike Fisher did all this himself. Impressive. The articles and comics: "Devil Girl From Mars 1954", Classic Sex Symbol- Raquel Welch", "Two of the Best Places (to find Star Babes)", "How Well Will You Do ? (Great Galactic Matrix of Star Babeness Quiz)", "Gort, The Planet Dstroyer- Interview" and A FULL COLOR CENTER SPREAD!

Wow, I was having a blast reading all this. Great art of Roquel Welch, the "Devil Girl" strip, more great Star Babe art than you can shake a ray-gun at! Plus such learn about the girls of Lost in Space and Star Trek...whew.....I'm all sweaty just looking this over again....I need a cold shower and it's not even the end of the month yet.

Photos, articles, comics, and good girl art......pant, gasp.....just order it now before I have a heart attack!

Young American Comics---Going Out of Business Sale.

Dear Fans and Friends of Young American Comics,

A lot has happened in the last couple of years. One piece of great news is that our son, Jonah was born in late March of 2008. He is a complete joy and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing his first crayon scrawls on paper.

As you of course already know, many people in this country have struggled with the economy over the last few years. Small businesses have been especially at risk, and YAC was no exception.

The rising costs of gas and air travel hit us hard, making it increasingly difficult to travel to conventions. When the airlines decided to start charging for luggage, it was the final nail in the coffin. If we could no longer travel to conventions, we were losing a large part of our sales and promotion.

Comic shops across the country have also been hurting, of course, and that directly translates to them buying less. In general, most comic shops don’t carry a lot of independent books (and minicomics even less so), so our sales to shops dwindled to nearly nothing.

And of course, you the fans have had less money in your own pockets as well. We would much rather you spend your money on food and rent than comics, though, so no hurt feelings. :)

What you may not know is that YAC was always funded out of our own pockets. We didn’t pay ourselves a paycheck and often took a loss, especially on minis and group projects. When we found out we were pregnant, we knew that we needed to adjust some priorities: it was foolish of us to continue to invest in what seemed like an already sinking ship.

We dragged our feet for quite some time, like a long-term relationship going sour. We were hesitant to quit on YAC, but had no capital to work with, and were beginning to feel burnt out of comics in general. We decided to use the New Year to “officially” go out of business.

Snakepit:
Ben Snakepit is a force to be reckoned with. We’re so glad that we helped Ben get his book out to people over the years, but he simply out grew us. We simply could not keep up with the demand or schedule for his quarterlies. Ben is now working with our friends at Microcosm Publishing. He will no longer be putting together quarterlies, but instead yearly anthologies.

The Mighty Offenders:
We’re very sad to see the Mighty Offenders be placed on permanent hiatus, but couldn’t be happier to let you know the cause for that hiatus: artist Joey Mason is now living in Los Angeles and working on The Spectacular Spider-Man (Saturday mornings on The CW.) The first season is currently running in reruns and the second season premiers in March 2009.

Group Projects:
We received a lot of fantastic submissions for What’s In The Box, but unfortunately, not enough to publish a new trade. On the same note, we received several submissions for Lost Lunches & Crash! Boom! Bang!, but were unable to find the capital to print them. Those of you who put hard work into your submissions, we hope that you enjoyed the exercise and apologize that we weren’t able to follow through.

If you put together a comic for one or more of these group projects, we encourage you to post or publish it and share it with the world. We loved so many of your entries and regret that we weren’t able to put them out for you.

52 Comic Challenges:
We may pick up this idea and dust it off in the future, but have no concrete plans in place.

We've always relied on you to spread the word: about our books, our projects, about indie comics in general. BLINK: FYI, IDK by Max Ink. This 16 page mini (counting covers) on light tan paper is a pleasure to read and view. Max has a great story telling style and his art is really great. Oh, and it's free!

Note: This issue of Blink takes place in the real-life, Luck Brothers' Coffee House in Grandview Heights, Ohio.

Fights in Beijing Olympics Trial Sport

The mixed martial arts sport of San Shou - which combines American Boxing,
Chinese Kickboxing, and Mongolian Wrestling – has struggled for years to gain
mainstream acceptance despite a large international following and the long-time support
of MMA fighting icons such as Cung Le. Now, the sport has been given its greatest
opportunity for exposure yet – the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Although not
officially a part of the Olympic games, China, as the hosting country, has chosen San
Shou as the official trial sport with hopes of it being formally initiated into the Olympics.
After fighting on the US San Shou Team for his fourth consecutive term,
Maximillion C. J. Chen – Max Chen for short – one of the top San Shou competitors in
the US and son of the living treasure of China, Tai Chi Chuan master William C. C.
Chen, earned one of two spots to represent the United States in this historic international
event. The first of Max’s bouts begin today.

As a tribute to Max’s already grand accomplishment, his teammates at the Martial
Arts Creative Team (M.A.C.T.), the action design group that choreographs both the
comic book and live action choreography for the critically acclaimed “JFH: justice-For-
Hire” comic books and films, have put together a video for Max on their newly launched
YouTube Channel to encourage him throughout his fights in Beijing. The channel will
also display regularly updated episodic content of live action side-storylines that
supplement the larger story arc of the “JFH” comic book universe, in which Max plays

Writer Crisman Strunk’s (Kentucky) previous credits include work on several horror anthologies. Letterer Jaymes Reed (North Carolina) has eight years of experience in the comics industry, and has worked on a few projects for Dynamite Entertainment. Starting with issue #3, artist J.C. The story was captivating from the start. The art is wonderful and the coloring really accentuates it all. This is a great comic. The story is one that I think more movies are about to explore in slightly different ways (See Blindness out this summer for one of them.) where in our quest for perfection, there is always a cost. I won't give it away here but this is a very good take on that premise. The reveal of Adam was complete for me and I should have seen it coming but didn't. I'd of not shown that image on the cover if it was me. You see I didn't look at it all that close at first and was glad I didn't since I let the story unfold and they have it sprung on me. Bravo to this team of creators for a very nice comic package. Very cool design to have the book appear to be in the grass and being read by someone. A book within a book.

I have already reviewed Seductions by AAzurn Pubishing, another book I really liked.

Delaine Derry Green has a fantastic package of comics here about true dating stories from 53 artist creators. This marks her 12th year of putting out Not My Small Diary. From the looks of this great body of work here I'm hoping she keeps it up for years to come. A very nicely designed package with comics from contibutors such as: Donna Barr, Suzanne Baumann, T. Motley, Jim Siergy, Maximum Traffic, Andrew Goldfar, Lee J. Green, Sara Gion and many many more. I read these cover to cover and was facinated with all the different stories and art styles. I love it. This is well worth $6 + $1 per set. So I give it a huge 5 out of 5 stars!

Nicely designed package. The story by Gary is very entertaining, takes you to different time periods following a vampire. How does he get his prey? How does he fit in? The art is a little off in the proportions here or there, but Bill is really pushing everything. He is stretching to draw so much, lush backgrounds, rooms full of people....Most of the time he really pulls it off. I just feel (and I'm being really picky here) that his figures look a bit too stiff and lifeless at times. His work does remind me of Neal Adams, and that isn't a bad thing.

Overall everything works great here, coloring, lettering, and art all flow nicely with the story. I was drawn to flip the pages to see what was going to happen next. Totally unpredictable story. Great work!

No price on the cover or inside which was strange. Seems a waste to put the same thing on the inside backcover as the inside cover, and a bigger waste to put the cover on the back cover as well. But that is just my opinion. Nice little bio of Gary and Bill in the back and nice ad page for Gary after that.

The art is very well done by Dan here and nice use of grey tones. The writing really makes you think. In the back there is more info about how this comic came to be and how Carry is actually doing something to help councel people with their self perception disorders.

This was an entertaining read with adequate art. The story of two nerdy scientists, minions, that go to work for Doctor Despot who has plans to take over the world. Finally see behind the scenes of what it really takes to run a evil Industry from the eyes of the minons that make it all happen behind the curtin.

Lots of info about the characters on the inside cover. This story is well thought out with lots of humor peppered around to keep you interested. As if you'd not be interested in how someone goes about taking over the world. The art is a big rough but with nice grey tones and lots of background work in the images, Gynn Stella shows she has the ability to tell the story well. She just needs a little more work in human anatomy but I'm being picky here. Get on the bandwagon and start reading Z & R: Minons for Hire! (4 stars out of 5)

Andrea the sexy space pilot is on a ship to get money owed her from a previous job. This leads to yet another adventure. The art is very good with lots of grey tones. The more mature parts are still handled well not becoming too over the top, too graphic. Tim just suggests things and that is enough. Still this should be for 14 and older ages. I recommend this book highly for those that are not squemish about some sexual conduct, and for people who like sexy heroes. (5 stars out of 5) Just wish this was a longer story.

Mystery City Comics is Craig Bogart I believe. He does everything here, art, story, inks, etc....(with Tony Goins doing the lettering and Tom Williams doing the cover colors and production assist) and he does it well. I've read some of the other issues but can't remember exactly what the premise is. I just remember I liked all of his books. Here we have some folks breaking into the secret halls of the Ineffables and by doing so giving us a little tour though their building. A very interesting way of showing us around and giving us more insight into the super team. See president Lincoln kick some ass, and a strange super being: Clarity, who is made up of Abstract art!

Tetragrammaton Fragments (#202) is a digest book from the United Fanzine Organization. 28 pages, color on the inside covers. $2.00

This is a publishing group that is made up of small press publishers that band together, send books to each member, then get comments and help from the other members. T Frags is their way of communicating with each other. Each member puts an ad in their own book promoting all of the other members books. So once you are in the group and they accept your book, you get lots of exposure and help from the other members. Plus you get to read the books from the other members. It's a win-win situation!

This issue was a really good one with a full color cover of a High Seas Angel. There are reviews of the other members books, and there are some comic strip samples in here also. I actually liked the whole book and it is making me want to join the UFO again. I was a member back in the mid 80's. (4 out of 5 stars)

I love the art and the stories in this mag! Right from the cover I knew I had to have this book. I was at the SPACE CON in Columbus, OH walking around looking for something good to buy and read and review. This jumped out and grabbed me. The art is very well done with the lead character having a very strange look. Is he a cat or dog? Not sure. But you'll love to follow his adventures as he stays near a college in Indiana, and get cought up in the Frat hi-jinks that take place around a place like this. Find out how far he will go to get a beer. What games he likes to play and what long periods of drink and video games will do to a person, among other things. (5 stars out of 5).

They took his cool radio jock wife and traded her in for a crazy, freaked out, screaming, fright of a lady. Poor Ed. If they ever re-run it I'll post the time here. Wow did I love this comic. It doesn't have anyone with superpowers, or vampires and such. What it does have is down-to-earth folks talking to each other in real ways. The art is very professional. My only complaint is that this should be a full size comic! The book was most likely to eventually be larger as the lettering is somewhat small, which would be in proportion if this was a full size comic. The art carries you along and flows with the story. Everything comes together just right. I can't say more than I give this great book 5 stars out of 5. No, really, I liked everything here. Just make it a full size and put it out! I'm sure people will love the characters and want more. Make it an ongoing story as you are doing anyway. Now I have to get more of your books. I read that some of the mini-comics you have out are free? I can afford that. I also liked the "Creatorial" at the front, and the "The Local Story" in the back. Bravo!

Super Shorts #1, White Elephant Productions. Jeff Brister writer, Alex De-Gruchy writer and Darrel Miller artist and writer. Full size comic, color cover, black and white interior pages with grey tones. 12 pages. Printed by Ka-Blam.

Well this is a very short comic, with three short stories. First we have Captain Mighty in BULLET PROOF by Darrel Miller. This story was drawn simply, but well. Sort of a parody of Shazam it seems. A surprise ending. Slow Day by Jeff Brister and Darrel Miller. The story has a bit of an edge, "It's just fun. Even when people want to kill others." This super character has no problem with an alien. Too bad this didn't have more going on...it was just starting to build up to something. Recruitment Drive by Alex De-Gruchy and Darrel Miller. This story has more going on and the art has more detail showing that Darrel can do more if given the right story perhaps...I liked the premise of auditioning for a super-villain to join the team with unexpected results. The ending was good. Overall I'd say that if they all worked together on a story that was more like 24 pages, and let Darrel take his time and work on the art a bit more as to backgrounds and such....they could have something here. I see on their blog that they plan to have issues out on a regular basis. That is good to hear as they will surely improve by staying at it. I'm eager to see more by these guys and hope they take more time and develop more of a story. I liked the art in each story, especially the last one. Maybe if they keep some of these characters going, they can find their voice and really get something going here. I liked the fact that each story was a comedy and hope they stay this course. Oh and the cover is very simple but effective. Like the silver age Fantastic Four font on the cover, nice touch. Hate Song #2- Fred Grisolm

Hate Song #2 is a collection of some of the web comic Hate Song by Fred Grisolm. This is a 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" book with color covers and black and white with gray tones interior of strips. Very nicely printed I should add. Cover price $3. The strip is about Berry and Lewis two guys that move into a house as they are nephews of a Mr. Laudermelk. The brothers are very strange and one is actually shooting at school kids with rifle (something that I don't think should be in a comic to give kids more ideas along these lines.), the other is collecting his fecal matter in the freezer and documenting it in a notebook for research. Strange stuff to be sure. Even though this is wacky weirdness the art is so good that you follow along and can't resist wanting to read more about these characters. I'm sure Fred is just pushing the envelope here to get attention, something I'm sure will happen when more people read his comics. There are 3 bonus pages with descriptions of some of the characters, in the back. (4 out of 5) He didn't put in any credits, how to order or any other info than a few web addresses hidden in the back of the book. Oh, there is a very strange one page strip (mature audiences for all of this stuff by the way.) and it does credit the artist Jamie Dee Galey. "Fred and Jamie". I happened to have some of these nice creators from Canada sitting next to me in San Diego this year. Their books were very popular. I'll be reviewing more of their work here soon. Time Warp Comix #1 and #2 from Weird Muse Productions. These are the start of a mini comic series by editor and artist Dan W. Taylor. This first issue is on orange paper stock, 8 pages with covers. $1 ppd per issue. Dan has started up this series as a mini comix project dedicated to the memory of Clay Geerdes and Comicx World / Comix Wave. Some of the contributors worked for Clay back in the days of Comix Wave and some just want to tip their hat to Clay by contributing to this series. First strip "I Remember Clay" by Jim Valentino. A great short story about Clay and how he inspired creators to "Just Draw!". Next story is: "Just a Couple of Geezers" by Vjtko. Very good art and story and the back cover is by the late, Michael Roden. Which is nice to see. Michael passed away in August of this year and the small press community will miss him. #2 has work by David Miller, Jim Siergey and Michael Roden. Another great issue. Oh, and you don't have an authentic copy of Time Warp Comix unless it is signed by Dan W. Taylor! (5 out of 5) Wish these were more than just 8 pages.

You'll be introduced to some very strange characters with some very strange powers. The art is wonderful and reminds me of comics of the 60's like ZAP Comics mixed with more modern works like Mark Martin's Gnatrat. But really you just have to see it for yourself. The story is hard to follow at first but just stay with it and some of it will come clear eventually. There are lots of funny bits here and there and it totally doesn't take itself seriously and that is where the fun lies. You never know what is going to happen next! Totally unexpected adventure yarn. Get these books now, before everyone discovers Clint's work and buys them all up! He has some new comics in the works such as "The Cosmic Norseman versus The Unbelieveable Laundry Detergent Man, Electric Ninja Punks and Lobster Tales. (5 out of 5) Highly original work here.

The story is called Fortune Cookies & Lamingtons. The art is very unique and tells the story very well. Nice use of blacks and the characters are all distinguishable. Backgrounds also nicely done. The cover is very nice with a splattered background that carries over to the back of the book. Nice design there. The story was very well done and what seems to be just a nice little everyday tale turns out to be much more. Surprise is the name of the game here and we get sucked into the story so that when some items come to light we are still drawn in. Some of this was like being in a dream at times. You almost felt like you were floating through the story. Everything is nicely done here and I highly recommend this to anyone. (5 out of 5 stars)

Restorf's ROCKING RUDES #1. Full color covers, 15 pages, 1/2 in color, 1/2 black and white. Full size comic.

Well Oliver Restorf-Thomsen is from Germany and he illustrated and wrote this comic. He wrote me a nice letter explaining how this was a very rushed project and how it was a mixture of his web comic work and his more detailed work. Well I'm sorry to say that I couldn't really tell much difference and it all looked a bit crude to me. I think the front page introducing the characters was the best part for me. He clearly had a vision for the look of the characters but couldn't pull it off after that. I do see a spark of talent here in the art. The writing must be lost in translation as it is in English and I can read it, though it still makes little since to me. This is where I tell him to continue working on his drawing skills every day. He is young and will progress. I just know it. The writing on the other hand will take more work. ComiXpress did a very nice job with the printing. The coloring looks good and I did like the Yellow Submarine tribute page very much.

Cornelia Cartoons #5- Dangerous Bird Productions by Kel Crum. 6" x 6" booklet with color covers and 16 black and white interior pages. 5 short stories here. The first one is the longest: A Corenlia Story "Cause and Effect" by Kel Crum. This is the best of the batch and we find Corny (Cornelia) looking for a group to join. She finally ends up with The Protest Gypsies who have A.D.H.D. so switch to a new cause each week. As with most of Kel's stories there is a moral hidden in there someplace, if you can find it. This is good fun and has it's moments of heaviness which keeps you reading not knowing what to expect next. Some very strange characters along the way helps keep your interest. The art is loose and rough in parts but clearly the story is the main focus here. I liked the ending as well. The other tales are Cornelia at a book store and another one where she gets her 15 minutes of fame which is a nice "what if" story. There is a Ed Thud Story that sort of left me cold. Not sure where Kel is coming from with his Ed stories....if I read enough of them I'm sure it'll make more sense. And the last story is another Cornelia Story where she is verbally sparring with a door-to-door salesman. Another good short tale. (3 stars out of 5) I'd rate these higher if the art was more polished but the stories alone are well worth the $1.50 here.

A Conelia Story "Sic Transit Cornelia" starts out simple enough with Cornelia at a small press comic show. She strikes up a friendship with a comic geek writer and one thing leads to another and before the story is over...oh, you'll just have to read it for yourself.....I don't want to give anything away. The fun is in the surprises. And this story keeps them coming. There are a few small bits that makes this a PG-13 story to my surprise and not sure those small parts were that needed to move the story along. The art is very simple and a bit on the amateurish side but the story more than makes up for it. This appears to be a small little story but takes you in big directions. Bravo to Kel and now I'm eager to see all his other comics! (3 out of 5 stars) Nice to see a long story that has a beginning, middle and end.

Death Accidental #1- One Shot Productions. Full size comic, color covers, 52 pages, black and white with gray interior art.
Story by Jay W. Davis, Pencils and Ink by Curtis Rhodes.

This story pulls you in and carries you along for the ride. The art is dramatic and gives you all the information you need to follow the story. If Curtis keeps working on his comic art I'm sure he will be an artist to watch out for. His figure work is OK but could be better. He already has a knack for nice layouts and pacing the story well. His use of shading is also very experimental yet it works well with the story. The writing is great for the most part with only a small moments that didn't totally 'ring true' for me here and there. But the main thing is he keeps the reader wanting more! A true gift when it comes to comic writing.

The story is set in a small town where a series of murders have been taking place. We don't know who is responsible but have some people we suspect along the way. You'll just have to read it as I don't want to give anything away here.
Well worth the $5 price tag as this is a 52 page comic. A lot of time, and creative energy went into this project and it shows. I'd of done the lettering differently but that is another thing that will hopefully be improved as this company continues on in the future, as they look like they put out a lot of comics and if they stay with it, could very well hit on a winning series. Though from the looks of some of their covers (this book included) they could use some one with graphic design expertise to move them in a more professional stage of production.

This is an online web comic that has been collected into a comic book. That explains why the art doesn't fit the comic pages I guess. This could be an addictive web comic once you meet the characters and if you are just starting out on your own and have friends that hang out too much. But otherwise the stories and art left me a little cold. But then I'm not just leaving home to get my first place on my own. So check out the site and judge for yourself. A nice touch is the behind the scenes in making a web comic section in the back of the comic. Great job there. Now if the artist can work more on his figure drawing and coloring skills a bit, and the writer can work out some more universal themes to the strips this could be more popular to a wider audience. If that is what they are after. (2 stars out of 5)

This book is a quick read but it makes you think. The art is very good and fits the story to a "T". Great work. The Ranter makes a great point about how many artists there are in the world and how hard it is to be noticed etc....Well worth the $4 admission price. (5 stars out of 5)

Michael Aushenker's CHIPMUNKS & SQUIRRELS is a crazy rollercoaster of "mature" comic fun. Cute little characters that rob liquor stores, steal from street people and make it big in Hollywood. Tons of entertainment from what appears to be some of the earliest work from Michael Aushenker as it was done from 1992-1994. The only thing square about this book is it's size! 8.5 x 8.5 with a color cardstock cover and brilliant black and white interiors. "Kiss my butler!"
(Rated 5 stars out of 5!) The art is a little too loose but improves as it goes along and it fits the crazy stories to a tee!

Well, actually I'm not sure. The story of a pizza store owner and his delivery guy after a nuclear war. This is a very bleak comic to be sure. The people in charge of the country are clueless, the pizza guy and his sidekick are clueless.....lots of cussing and non PC comments here and there....I could only make it through about the first 1/4 of the book and that was painful. If this is a first effort with a young creator as it appears to be then give publishing a break and work on your story writing and take some art lessons. There, that's constructive criticism, right? (But I just checked his MySpace link and he is 25 years old. Well, it's never too late to take art lessons and writing classes.....) (Zero stars)

Frater Mine #4, Making Comics Studios. 2006. Full size comic, color cover, 28 pages, black and white interiors. $2.95. I had the pleasure of lettering issues #2 and #3 last year and I found the art and story for this comic very original and entertaining. The story by Sean McGrath mixes real life situations then spins you into some characters with strange and mystical powers. Don't want to give anything away but it keeps you reading. You get involved with the characters and this is something that most comics don't take the time to do. The art is always excellent on the series as well. The covers are very creative and you can tell that Sean is not afraid to push the envelope here and there. Well worth getting the full run of issues 1-4 with #5 looking to come out in 2007. Written by Sean McGrath, drawn and inked by Juan Romera, Lettered by Ed Brisson, Cover at by Scott McGrath, Edited by Scott McGrath. (I give this 5 stars.)

So you can see they have a great story unfolding here, with art that has greatly improved in issue #2. Plus the coloring is much better. Please try out this series, written by the soon to be famous Chris Moshier. (Who wrote the novel MORGANA X soon out from Fan-Atic Press!..among other things.) (4 stars)

Nobody Can Eat 50 EGGS #31. Digest, color cover (wraps around), 25 black and white pages, counting inside covers which are also in color. No company name, no price no credits on cover. very nice cover, reminds me of a cartoonist from the 70's and 80's, Ted Bolman. This zine has great little strips...don't see any names on this yet..."The Cement Shoe Brothers in" What A Goon Thinks is a little funny diddy about some thugs and how they must collect money owed. This was very well done. Nice art. Reminds me of some of the Mad Magazine artists. "Frank and Eddie in" Lizard Love part 1. Still no credits, two guys arguing and one that gets attached to a pet lizard. This doesn't seem to go anywhere. It is continued farther in the book but doesn't seem to lead to anything...maybe I needed to read some of the other issues. How to Trap Bigfoot, was interesting but not as funny as it could have been I guess. The art again is excellent and fits the messages. Warning Signs Your Boss is Really A Thinly Disguised Alien Creature THAT EATS PEOPLE....this was very well done and was even closer to the Mad Magazine look and feel. In fact they would have used most of this I bet. Hunchback Intern was very good and the art was great. Same guy doing this whole book? Looks like it. Love to see more of these hunchbacks. Bruno in Anger Management about two rhinos was also well done. I could go on and on as there is allot packed into these pages. This is worth every penny, if we knew how many pennies.... (4 stars)

DARE #1, Pickle Press, Nik Havert and Renatus (2006). Price on cover $7.95. Full size comic, square-bound, glossy color cover, 78 black and white pages with lots of gray tones. This mature readers only comic is a mix between porn, a female James Bond, and well, more porn.....The story by Nik isn't that bad actually, but if you are not into the heavy sex action portrayed here then you won't even get into the story anyway. The art is from very good to OK. In parts it looks rushed but overall it is above average and the artist knows his anatomy well (too well?). The cars and backgrounds are excellent. His use of gray tones is over handled and makes most of the pages way too dark, but the story does move along and besides the sex there is some very violent action sequences. So you can tell this was a labor of love for Nik and Renatus but it remains to be seen how many will be turned off by this "guy" magazine. I'm sure you'll have to be over 17 to buy this and not easily offended to say the least. For people that love porn and violent action intermixed with some good story telling...this is for you. (I give it 3 stars)

Weird MUSE #3, by Dan W. Taylor. 4.25' tall x 5.5' wide, cream cardstock cover, black and white printing. 8 interior pages. I guess this is rated PG-13 as there are some breasts here and there...First we have a nice little into page with nice art (and breasts), then we go to DAN's Wife's Page....some nice home cleaning tips, and a recipe, oh and a nice photo of some kittens. Then we bet to the comic by Dan: The Weird Muse in Think Twice & Be Nice. Nice art and story. Love the gray tones as well. (More comic breasts, she is a GODDESS for gosh sakes.). And we learn an important lesson in the end! Another great little comic by DAN!
(5 stars) They just keep getting better, but I want more!

This little zine is very fun to read. Really nice, excellent stories by Laurie Marie Taylor:"Naive Melody"-The Talking Heads, Catherine Lemoreus:"Pretty Pathetic"-The Smoking Popes, Joshua Hamilton; "Help" - The Beatles, Scott Free (love that name): "An American Tune" -Simon and Garfunkel, and many more.... 19th Century Detective #1: The Graybridge Terror, Candid Cartoons. Full size comic, 32 black and white interior pages, Story and Pencils by Larned Justin, Inks by Tim Corrigan. Larned has a great package here and with the help of Tim Corrigan you can't go wrong. The story introduces you to 4 main characters mainly Lan Brain a Dectective retired from Scotland Yard, but they call on him with some of their most difficult cases. This story has some real surprises and not to give anything away, I don't think you'll see them coming. In fact there is a secret envelope you also get with the comic that you can't open till you finish reading the book! Don't peek! That makes it just that much more fun! Can't wait to read and review issue #2 which I do have already. The art is a little rough at times, but not often, and the placing of the word balloons are sometimes not that well thought out but none of that distracts from the story which is well written and the art tells it well. (4 stars)

NO HOPE #4, Dead Dog Press. Written and Drawn by Jason Dean. 47 pages, magazine size, black and white, black and white slick covers. As the title proclaims, this is: crude, offensive, puerile, etc... magazine. Well parts of it are funny and the art is very well done. The production of the book is excellent. The LETTERS page is very funny stuff, but....the humor is crude and rude. If you are into crazy characters that cuss allot, and do violent crazy things this book is for you. Oh, and you have to be over 17 years old for sure. On the good side the art and lettering remind me of the JIM books, and other stuff like ZAP Comics (actually Robert Crumb's WIERDO) which I'm sure must of inspired Jason to work on this. It sure seems like a labor of love and he really must work day and night on all the art and stories he packs into the book. Just not my cup of tea, and I'm guessing not many of you will care for this either. I can't even show the cover here.

There is a interesting historical piece included called The Horrific Filmography of Freddy Valentine. It starts out, "Although a familiar face with the drive-in movie audiences of the 1950's and 60s, it's only recently that people have begun to take an interest in the blood-splattered career of the ghoulishly gruesom horror actor Freddy Valentine." The story talks about his career and there are some very strange numbered areas at the bottom of the story that eventually take over the page, detailing some of the story, but in a very bizarre way that I'm sure Jason has made up to enhance the piece. He even draws up some of these movie posters mentioned in the article and in the indica info. I'm not sure which are based on real posters and which are made up. Anyway, strange and interesting work throughout this thick book. Jason should be given an award for creativity and a ticket on the next train out of town! You be the judge if you dare try out this book. (I give it 2 stars mostly for the art and book layout. Again, most of the subject matter was very crude and rude.)

MANTRA #10, black and white digest, anthology, 44 pages. I remember MANTRA! Yeah, this is the first issue for 19 years! I can stop holding my breath now! WHOOOOOOOooooo.....Love this zine. Sure it reminds me of my Slam Bang before I went fat with it. I love this size and it is chock full of great art and stores; Nice cover, "Side Effects!" by Keeter and Jim Pack, love stories inspired by true life....and the art is pretty good! Deep Poetry #2, by Steve Keeter....uh, oh this is deep. Does most everything involve beer! Ha! Guess so. Larry Blake's "LeRoy's Country Song!" is one wild comic page! Yee-ha, love this guy's stuff. Hey it's the BEACON! I remember this character! Yeah, the art looks like Tim Corrigan's work....maybe the credits are reversed. "Worthwords" by Larry Blake keeps you begging for more from this guy! One page here isn't enough! Pepper and Snuggle's GREAT ESCAPE, story: Cliff Kurowski, Art: April Kurowski, is some funny animal capers. Uh, this would make a nice children's book story, but here it's not doing much for me. The one pager by Tim Kelly reminds me of the old Floyd Flamdoozle. Remember that strip way back when? Funny stuff. Has a nice underground feel to it. "Stand-Up Guy in...Turnabout" is another one pager this time by Brien Wayne Powell. Uh, art is not much and the story isn't up to par but this guy could be on the right track. I'd have to see more from him. MANTRA MISSIVES is a cool throwback since it had the letters from 19 years ago! Ha! Great stuff. Talk about picking up where you left off! Next we get more great stuff from Larry Blake, and the back cover is very nice by Tuz. So overall there is quite a lot to digest here, and most of it is well worth the cost of the book. Which reminds me, what does the book cost? Don't see a price on it. Also the #10 seems to be left off the cover....

I give this 5 stars assuming the cost of the book is resonable and knowing Steve it will be. Also he has info on books from SPS (Small Press Syndicate) and BPP (Blue Plaque Publications) and UFO (United Fanzine Organization)...whew! I was in the UFO years ago, and it's a great place to get reviews and help each other get the word out on your publications! Support these co-ops!
